yesterday we put my cousin, jamey, on a plane to st petersburg, russia for a year. the departure was bittersweet because, yes, she will be gone for a year, but she is finally getting to do what she has dreamed of for a decade or so now. she'll be teaching photography in a school in st petersburg while working with missionaries there as well. i believe she's there now. arrived this morning after what was sure to have been a bear of a flight. mine was when i went. she, like me, arrives just in time for the famous white nights. she'll have a little more time before they're in full swing, though. i loved them. then again, i can sleep in broad daylight. or night light.

Canyonlads Video Series Part X

And now, concluding our Canyonlands Video Series for 2006, here is Scott buying stamps. Enjoy.

Canyonlads Video Series Part IX

Once we got back to town and got cleaned up, we went out for dinner. After we ate, some guy named Jerry was nice enough to offer Krysty a motorcycle ride. We caught it on tape... or SD card rather. Enjoy.

Canyonlads Video Series Part VIII

This a group shot. I set the timer on the camera, and it wasn't until I pulled the pictures off the card that I noticed the camera had been in video mode. You can hear some dialog about Scott hitting a squirrel on his birthday for the second year in a row. Enjoy.

Canyonlads Video Series Part VII

This is Justine crossing a creek. There were quite a few of these. One day we counted around 54 creek crossings. I think the trail makers were doing it on purpose for a laugh.

Canyonlands Video Series Part VI

Scott got snowed on at the Salt Creek 1 campsite. Zach, Justine, and I actually climbed up to the same rock that Scott shot this from. We stayed in this same valley our first night, and Scott was there a couple of days later. Enjoy.

welp it's official folks. the votes are in. this is my most popular photo on flickr "in order of interestingness."
it is ranked by the number of views, comments and people who marked it as a favorite. i think this will greatly embarrass the subject, which makes me a little happy. she never much liked this photo, but with scientific proof like this, i think she can no longer deny that it's a pretty great pic. you might find another pic or two of her here.

we arrived at the dream center early tuesday morning and received our first assignment. and to quote tina, "first time in l.a. and the first place we go is skid row." you can see the trip through her eyes here.
the skid row ministry is out there almost every day, serving hot meals and offering the hope of Jesus Christ to those who are among the most hopeless in our nation.

this spring break four of us piled into a small car and braved the road that leads to los angeles. we wanted to work with the dream center which is the product of two young men's dream to reach out to the inner city of los angeles. they do too much even begin to go into here. 200+ different ministries including the few we got to be a part of: hope for homeless youth, skid row outreach, food truck, and metro kidz (which, by the way, is run in part by a guy named joe from missoula, who was very excited that we were there). this is my favorite picture from the whole trip. it's from our time in metro kidz. we went to a couple of schools in watts and handed out fliers to kids after school for an outreach we helped put on with games, music, candy and a bible story. the girl on the left's name is omri. she is a beautiful combination of shyness and goofiness.

Canyonlands Video Series Part V

Well, I missed a day. Sorry, but I've been working late. Does that mean you get two today? I don't think so, but this is a good one. It has both a tree and a cabin. Enjoy.

Canyonlads Video Series Part IV

We got caught in some rain, so we took cover under an overhang. It looks like Scott did the same.

Canyonlads Video Series Part III

Scott took a couple of soundless videos of a waterfall that he saw, but we missed somehow. I think it was because we were off the trail at that part. Hey, we had a GPS why would we need a trail? Anyway, I'll just skip over those and head on to the next one with some commentary. Enjoy.

Canyonlands Video Series Part II

Scott's incredible majestic views and his really heavy pack. For those of you who don't know, there were eight of us, however, the park will only allow seven to hike together. So Scott tried out a solo hike from north to south, and the rest of hiked from south to north passing him on the way.

Canyonlands Video Series Part I

Well, we didn't really post any audioblogs from the Canyonlands trip. I tried a couple of times. The first time the call was cut off half way through because we were driving, and the second time I couldn't get good enough reception to place a call.

We're back now, and I have posted a bunch of photos. Also, we came back with a bunch of short video clips. I'll post them here once a day until we're done. Some will be more exciting than others, but for the first one here is the Krysty walk. Walking on those steep sandstone cliffs can be scary. This is the real thing, not a reenactment. Enjoy.
